About Me

Yasuhiko Genku Kimura

Vision without action is empty. Action without vision is blind.
Ideology and opinion divide. Quest and commitment unite.

We face an unprecedented challenge of change. Today the nature of change itself is changing. What you already know is utterly inadequate for meeting this challenge. In order to thrive in this environment, a radical conceptual leap, a transformation in consciousness, is required.

Yasuhiko Genku Kimura is an expert in facilitating such a leap and transformation through the innovative use of the Zen-inspired Socratic method designed to produce breakthrough thought and insight.

Yasuhiko Genku Kimura is a philosopher, independent scholar, former ordained Zen Buddhist priest, consultant and advisor to leaders in business, science, and cultural organizations. Over a quarter century he has developed and delivered hundreds of innovative, custom-made individual and corporate transformational programs.

Mr. Kimura has been called “a philosopher of change” by his peers and acknowledged as one of the most original and visionary thinkers and theorists in the field of integral philosophy. He is recognized for his ability to integrate advanced Western scientific thought with the intuitive wisdom of Eastern philosophic traditions to bring about profound change in the way in which people be and think.

Mr. Kimura assists thought leaders to evolve beyond the paradigm-bound being and thinking that often inhibits development and success. He aims to provoke real breakthrough-thinking in others through his Zen-inspired Socratic method, awakening the latent creative potential in individuals and organizations, and thereby creating a path for people to transform their creative vision into effective action.

Mr. Kimura is author of eight published books and well over one hundred essays and papers in fields ranging from metaphysics, spirituality, ethics, science, consciousness studies, and systems theory to futurism, business, leadership, communication, strategic thinking, and organizational development.

His translation of ancient Chinese and Japanese classics includes Lao Tzu’s Tao Teh Ching (道徳経), Sun Tzu’s The Art of War (兵法), Zen Master Dogen’s The Treasury of Illumined Visions (正法眼蔵).

Mr. Kimura lectured and gave courses and workshops on wide-ranging subjects throughout the United States and around the world, including Japan, Canada, the United Kingdom, Germany, Spain, Brazil, and Argentina.

He has given lectures and seminars on strategic thinking and transcultural communication at major business schools, including The MIT Sloan School of Management, USC Marshall School of Business, Pepperdine Graziadio Business School, and Universidad de San Andrés – Escuela de Administración y Negocios (University of San Andrés – School of Administration and Business – Buenos Aires, Argentina).

From 1998 to 2002, Mr. Kimura served as Executive Director of The Twilight Club/The Society of the Arts and Sciences, originally established in the late-1870s by Herbert Spencer, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Walt Whitman, Mark Twain, Andrew Carnegie, John Burroughs, Oliver Wendell Holms and other prominent Americans for the purpose of ethical and cultural upliftment of the world.

During the same period, Mr. Kimura also served as Director of The University of Science and Philosophy (The Walter Russell Foundation). He published a quarterly magazine (16 issues total) that was dedicated to the modernization of the visionary work of Walter Russell (1872 — 1963) in the integration of science and spirituality, ethics and aesthetics, and vision and action. He also organized and directed eight (8) bi-annual conferences on the themes of integrating vision with action, ethics with business, and science with spirituality.

In 2003, with Dr. Glenn Olds (philosopher, former university president, Ambassador to UN Economic Council, and special assistant to four U.S. presidents), Mr. Kimura co-founded Vision-In-Action (501(c) organization), an action-oriented ‘sapient circle’ of thought leaders, as the 21st-century version of The Twilight Club/Society of Arts and Science, for the express purpose of developing and implementing new, creative, innovative, and transformative solutions to problems and challenges facing humanity.

In 2005, Mr. Kimura established Vision-In-Action Leadership Institute (LLC), for developing spiritually aware, intellectually sovereign, ethically integrated, and ecologically conscious leaders of the world in all walks of life. While consulting individuals and organizations, he developed and delivered a three-year applied philosophy course, Authentic Thinking for Creative Evolution (ATCE), attended by hundreds of individual participants from around the world, and acclaimed for its originality, philosophical depth, and transformational power.

In 2015, Mr. Kimura co-founded The B Future Forum (BFF) with Rafael Steinhauser (CEO, Qualcomm Latin America) and Alec Oxenford (Founder, letgo, inc.)—an annual forum for future-creating dialogue, discussion, and thought-exchange. BFF has been held in Berlin, Germany, and Buenos Aires, Argentina, on the themes of “The Future of Creativity”, “From Multiculturalism to Transculturalism”, “Healing the World, Healing the Self”, and “The Future of Art and Technology”. (In 2021, BFF will be held in Brazil on the theme of “The Future of Change”.)
